Kristīne Briede is a documentary filmmaker, producer and researcher whose work bridges cinema, culture and social engagement. Active in Latvia's cultural and civic life since the mid-1990s, she initiated and produced the pioneering K@2 Karosta project, contributing to the regeneration of the former Soviet military town of Karosta and the founding of the New Media Arts programme at the University of Liepāja. She has directed and produced more than ten documentaries and short films. Her feature documentary Bridges of Time (2018), co-directed with Lithuanian filmmaker Audrius Stonys, won the Grand Prix for Best Documentary at the Shanghai International Film Festival (2019) and was named Best Latvian Documentary of the Year. Her latest feature, Before the Light (2023), received a Special Jury Mention at the Latvian National Film Awards Lielais Kristaps.
